Quick Tips: Flowers

Even when you are bingeing a fantasy or working your way through a five pound sci-fi novel, the fictions surrounding us by all draw inspiration from the world we know. Dramas, tear-jerkers, comedies and everything in between are all tethered in common human emotion. While romances may include heavily manicured sets, carefully orchestrated meet cutes and trendy costumes that does not mean the stories they tell are unattainable. Realistically, an entry level assistant job in the big city may not land a salary that can sustain a designer-filled closet in a highly coveted arts district high rise, but The FMC has found there are quite a few things a person can do when they aren’t feeling up to par with the heroines found between pages and on screens.

In this new quick tip series, we will share both our discoveries and those brought to us by readers, curating a collection full of ways to pull ourselves out of any secondary character sadness and back into the spotlight where we belong.

The weather is warming. The sun is often out. Spring is fully upon us. Right now, one of the most enjoyable ways to claim your main character energy is to take Miley Cyrus’ advice: buy yourself flowers. Not only, do they instantly brighten any room, but a colorful collection of petals adds a level of “put-togetherness”—real or mere illusion—to any space. Flowers are also highly customizable. You can purchase ready made bouquets at a variety of price points or create a personal display that fits your space exactly the way you’d like.

Pro Tip: If you aren’t already in the know, Trader Joe’s offers a year round collection of seasonal blooms and arrangements perfect for either avenue at a median price of $25 USD.

At The FMC, we fully support a fake it until you make it mindset. So get out that vase, washed out soda can or mason jar that is collecting dust in your pantry and fill it with something pretty. You may not live in a picturesque flat above your favorite local bookstore, but perfumed pops of color can help you pretend.

(If you have furry friends, remember to check what plants are toxic to them before buying)
